The Wisconsin Philharmonic: Lyric Masters
Sunday, April 27, 2014 @ 3:00 PM
The Philharmonic closes its season with three of the great masters of the Romantic Era: Wagner, Tchaikovsky, and Saint-Saëns. A bicentennial nod to Richard Wagner, with his soothing Siegfried Idyll, opens the program. Another amazing artist from the Milwaukee Symphony, the elegant French-born cellist Adrien Zitoun, then performs the most beautiful of all Gallic concertos for his instrument. In the same passionate spirit, the season ends with Tchaikovsky's wildly dramatic, and bizarrely neglected First Orchestral Suite, which abounds with the Russian master's fabled melodic genius.
