Artist Dialogue @ 6:30pm
When Mizer's youngest son was four, he asked, “Mom, you know that voice in your head? Who is that?” Her work is an attempt to answer that question, exploring the idea of memory and identity as they relate to relationships—particularly the relationships that must change in order to grow. For Mizer, drawing and painting give voice to hurt, intrigue, and betrayal, examining those parts of the past that continue to reside in the present. The images that repeat themselves (bobby-pins, cherry pies, igloos, scissors, string) in her work are all tied to the concept of home: what it is, and how we can ever manage leaving it.
